The project is located within the former industrial area Ex Falck (old steel factory), now Milanosesto. This new secondary school grows inside the structure of industrial archeology named “Treno Laminatoio”. The building is conceived to create a dialogue by means of a sequence of modular elements. The rhythm of the existing structure defines the school one, with blocks for classrooms, activities and services located along a central corridor. At either ends of the structure, are located the canteen and the gym with an adjacent café.
The building is accessible through a glazed and transparent central lobby, connecting the entrance with the garden at the back where areas for playing sport and break out activities are located.
The concept is inspired by spaceship modules. The students, entering these spaces detached from the ground, will have the perception to embark on a trip towards knowledge, awareness, and culture.
The building is conceived with a steel structure cladded with white painted aluminum panels.
The school has been designed following the latest educational buildings guidelines, not only guaranteeing the quality of the educational spaces, but also allowing an economically sustainable management with private late-afternoon and evening functions in dedicated areas.
